Something pretty special happened last weekend.
Last Sunday, just five days before my birthday, we adopted this beautiful little girl – who we like to call Minty.
Isn’t she lovely?
She is a pure bred Silver and Black Tabby British Shorthair kitten. She is 15.5 weeks old and has brought such fun and happiness into our home. She is such a pretty kitten, but it was her sweet nature and constant purring that won us over. We are so happy to have found her and I am afraid it means there might be a few kitten posts coming your way here or on Instagram. She’s just too photogenic 😉
British Shorthair cats have a tendency to love to be near you, but not on you. Next to you, but not on your lap. They’re very independent and don’t need to be in pairs for company. They are not particularly active cats, which makes them perfect for apartment living. They’re very happy to remain inside, lounging around in the sun or watching the rain out the window. These and many other factors make this beautiful kitty, the perfect fit for our lifestyle.
Born into a family with cats, I have been a cat-person all my life. Lucy and Lucifer were the kittens my parents took in before they had children and who lived with us until they were 18 years old. They were the cats we dressed up in dolls clothes and push around the neighbourhood in our dolls pram. They were there for every birthday and Christmas morning until I was 10.
After their passing I remember our empty house and a feeling of loss. Like losing my best friends.
But after only a week, we found ourselves taking in 2 more stray kittens, dumped at the back of our house. A ginger & white female and an all ginger male. Chloe became mine and her brother Sebastian became my sister’s and we were ecstatic.
My Chloe lived until she was 19, which meant she lived in every house and apartment I ever lived in, after I moved out of home. She was there when I did my grade 6 homework, right through to my University exams. She was who I came home to when I lived on my own. I was 29, when I finally believed it was time to let her go peacefully. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but I truly believe in my heart it was right for her.
Soon after I moved to Germany, to start a life with the love of mine.
Pretty much ever since then, I have dreamt about having another a cat, but knew the impracticalities involved. When we moved, we expected to be here two years, maybe three. We travelled regularly and spent long stints back home in the Summer, which meant having any pet would complicate things.
Not much has changed, except the fact we have now been here almost 8 years. Minty will no doubt change our lives in many ways – which I am prepared for. The difference is, we now have a support system around us, we know of a Kitty Hotel near by, I am confident enough in German to communicate with a vet and we live in a larger apartment than when we first moved here. Things will be more complicated now, but I don’t think it’s anything we can’t handle.
Welcome Minty ❤ – into our lives and our home. I think you fit in pretty well here already.
Thank you for letting me indulge in this life – event here. It means a great deal to me and I just couldn’t wait to share her with you.

Nawwww….. I’m more of a dog person, but Minty is so darn cute. So glad she is in your life.
Thanks Robyna – I completely understand! I’m not a dog person, but every now and then a cute puppy dog catches my eye too. Thanks so much for stopping by x
What a lovely story about all the cats in your life. Like you, I had a cat growing up (the original name of ‘Tiger’) who died when I was 21. Now that I’m nearly 31, I’ve decided that it’s time for another cat in my life. So next year will be the year! How exciting. I hope I can find one at the animal hospital that is as sweet as Minty 🙂
What exciting news Isabel! Wishing you the best of luck finding the right kitty for you. I know he or she is out there and I can’t wait to hear about it. Thank you so much for stopping by xx
I’m not a cat person at all. Probably because I am highly allergic to them. But I have to say that is one cute cat. Almost cute enough to turn me. Enjoy. x
Haha – thank you Deb! We are most probably bias, but we think she’s pretty darn cute too! I love her little face. x
