Hi there Friends!
Sometimes something special happens.
This is one of those times, I’d like to share with you.
A very special custom order came in from a friend of mine a few weeks ago, who teaches an amazing group of students at that Verney Road School in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia.
One of their favourite books written by Mike Curato (Hi Mike!) is Little Elliot, Big City – about a little Elephant called Elliot, taking on Manhattan, with some of the most delightful illustrations I have seen in a long time. They instantly take me back to those streets, I very recently walked myself.
My Teacher-Friend hoped I could make a plush version of Elliot for her classroom. A little white Elephant, with blue and pink polka dots for the children to cuddle, talk to, play and read with.
We agreed on the perfect socks, I figured out how to make his little trunk stay turned up and he was promptly sent directly to the class at school, so they could all open him together. Boy was he an amazing hit!
Elliot is now one of the most popular students at the school, he escorts the children on their field trips and my Teacher-Friend is hoping to work out a schedule for Elliot to do over-night stays with the children, providing they remember to bring him back!
I can’t tell you what the impact of this little guy, on a class of amazing students, means to me.
This is why I continue to do what I do.
Thank you my Teacher-Friend. Thank you Verney Road School for embracing Elliot. Thank you Mike Curato for widening the imaginations of these children. Thank you for letting me be a part of this on-going collaboration.
