One of my favourite cities in the world – Amsterdam has it all.
- Friendly people.
- Bikes! Bikes! Bikes!
- Funky cafes.
- Stunning canals.
- Photo opportunities around every corner.
- Handmade and locally designed treasures.
- Amazing food & coffee.
- Art, street art, installation art, galleries & exhibitions.
- History & a glimpse at the future.
The first time we visited Amsterdam, within 10 minutes I thought to myself – ‘I could live here’. I could picture myself riding my bike each day to my light-filled studio, where I would look out a window to a canal, filled with people having coffee along it’s banks. I know the grass is always greener, but Amsterdam is truly a European gem. Wandering the cobble-stoned streets and winding your way past canal after canal and over bridge after bridge, it never fails to put a smile on your face. People here seem happy. Happy with what they have. Happy to be where they are and happy doing what they’re doing, even the street cleaners were smiling!
It is also one of the only cities in the world where you might see an entire family on a bike – yes a push bike. Not a motorcycle. We sae multiple mothers & fathers with multiple children in varying positions on bikes. Some were on the front, some were on the back – some were standing, some were sleeping, some were helping to give traffic signals, as they turned a corner. What a way to head out as a family!
Do we have to leave?
Have you been to Amsterdam? Did you love it like me? If not, why not?

I haven’t been there but my daughter has and absolutely loved it. We almost went there when we visited her in London but went to Barcelona instead. Thank you for sharing, it looks truly lovely.
Well then you must go next time!! Barcelona is amazing too – but I have a soft spot for Amsterdam…thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment 🙂
We were lucky enough to visit in January last year – all the way from Australia. Both my husband and I have Dutch background so it was always going to be a great place to visit but we were surprised how much we LOVED it – even in the cool weather. One of the highlights of our trip for sure. Can’t wait to go back one day and see some more.
I went years ago and loved it too. It was in winter time so just beautiful and interesting. Love your photos
